The delicious and delectable cep mushroom, also known as "big-foot plug mushroom," "coarse-foot mushroom," or "white pig liver," belongs to the family Tricholomataceae and the genus Boletus. It is renowned for its fleshy texture that closely resembles pig liver. Its ascospores are both tasty and flavorful, the fruiting body is large, the flesh is thick, the stem is robust, and the overall taste is exquisite—making it highly popular among customers.

The delicious and flavorful bolete mushroom is commonly found on the ground in dense, shady oak forests or sclerophyllous woodlands. Its ascospores are often solitary, and it typically forms ectomycorrhizal associations with the roots of a wide variety of oak species as well as other broadleaf trees. It is a non-specific ectomycorrhizal fungus.
